wagamama summer arrivals.

last weekend during a little shopping trip to st albans i had a cheeky bite to eat in wagamama. we though we'd just have a couple of starters and a salad to share - and i loved their new arrivals so much that i just had to post about it!

the prawns were lovely and juicy, the chicken was almost melt in the mouth and i can only assume the sauces and marinades they use are made by some japanese god. the salad was fresh and the new berry drink had got to be at least 3 out of my five a day, right?

mourne seafood bar, belfast.

"Our aim is to serve fresh local seafood at an affordable price. To ensure freshness we purchase direct from the local ports of Annalong and Kilkeel on a daily basis."

i have to say living in the middle of england i probably couldn't live further from the sea. so as much as i love the bakewell tarts, melton mowbray pork pies and red leicester cheese i do sadly miss out on truly fresh seafood - something i never pass up!

myself and my mum shared their famous mussels steamed with white wine, garlic and cream as well as prawn linguine with cherry tomato and chorzio marinara and parmesan and spiced fishcake with guacamole and salad.

and of course - in true irish spirit - had to try their colcannon!

as i live so far, far away you're probably wondering how i found the place. well, this quaint little restaurant was recommended to me by a leicestershire friend who also visited. and i'd recommend it to you too if you're ever nearby. (you never know!)

homemade cheddar cheese, chive and red onion tartlets.

these are a really quick and easy idea for party food. they take less than 30 mins to make and you can use any filling!

begin by making basic shortcrust pastry and cutting it into circles with a cookie cutter. if you don't have one you could always use the rim of a mug, tall glass or even a dressing bottle. you then put them in foil cases which you can get from most big supermarkets.

you then beat an egg and a splash of milk together and pour into the cases. i would say 1 egg per six tarts. and finally sprinkle with your favourite flavouring :) personally i love anything with red onion but would love to try this with asparagus and salmon or broccoli and stilton!
