taste of thai, ashby de la zouch, leicestershire.

not long ago i sent a little recommendation request out on twitter... what is the best thai in leicester or leicestershire? a few people replied with the same thing: taste of thai in ashby de la zouch. funnily enough that is my home town and i'd been here lots of times with my sixth form friends back when it was called thai rainbow. i'm not sure why it changed names but it's still the same welcoming restaurant which has been family run for 20 years. since i'd not been in a while i thought i'd try it out - with a few old favourite dishes and some new additions. we sat right next to some enormous goldfish :)

we began with my all time favourite sharing platter. this was always an absolute must! this consists of succulent chicken satay, sesame prawn toast, vegetable spring rolls, sticky chicken wings and fresh prawn won tons. to accompany we has homemade peanut sauce, sweet chilli and plum dip.

i could eat so much little bits like this when i go for thai, chinese or sushi. though onwards to the mains...

i went for an old favourite sweet and sour salmon (pla priew waan £8.95) which has been deep fried in a melt in the mouth batter. it's even served in a fish shaped tray - love it!

we shared thai sticky rice (£3.75) and prawn phad thai (£7.65) whilst my other half had sliced roast duck with a spicy taste of thai sauce (£8.95).

the phad thai was gorgeous - really large, juicy prawns. i just wish there has been as many of them as there had been in the colourful duck dish.

had a lovely meal there as always - reminded me of why this really is one of the best thais in the midlands. a real little gem :)

do you have any restaurant recommendations? i recently tried out rosa's thai cafe in london which i would thoroughly recommend too!
