little tokyo, leicester.

another birthday meal: a feast of japanese treats! based in leicester along braunstone gate, i can't believe this is the first time i'd been to this lovely little gem. i took a few quick snaps of the food before devouring this delicious asian banquet.

dry asahi beer and sweet plum wine for me :)

chicken gzoyas (£3.95) also known as potstickers or dumplings. i believe these are deep fried with a chicken and spring onion filling though you can also steam them. one of my favourite japanese tapas treats. and something i do really need to try making myself soon.

these are ebi tempura (£4.95) , which are deep fried prawns. the sweet chilli dip is an essential with these. mmm! i think for just under £5 it would have been nice to have a couple more of these.

lastly in the picture is duck teriyaki (£7.95), avocado maki (£2.95), yasai katsu curry (£7.95) and salmon and avocado temaki (£3.95).  also known as kamo teriyaki, the duck was beautifully drenched in teriyaki sauce and scattered with toasted sesame seeds. the yasai katsu was a veggie dish made up of sweet potato, baby corn, aubergine, carrots and mushroom in a light batter. the avocado maki was light and fresh whilst the salmon temaki, or handroll, is an old favourite of mine which didn't disappoint.

to be honest, i really can't wait to go back :) if you love sushi and japanese cuisine, you might also like flesh & buns in london or sushi express in sheffield. and if you have any recommendations - do send them my way!

  1. Oh my gosh. The food looks so good! I LOVE Japanese cuisine. Tampopo is one of my favourite east Asian restaurants. I went to a similar place in Edinburgh back in August which I blogged about, can't for the life of me remember the name of the place though. I had a similar prawn dish which was so so good!
