seared sesame spiced beef stir fry with amoy special selection soy sauce.

i was recently invited to an amoy event to launch their new special selection soy sauce. sadly, due to it being a daytime shindig and living up in the midlands, i couldn't make it down to london to try out their chinese feast. gutted. luckily, they sent me a sample of the delectable stuff... and i immediately got to work researching a new stir fry recipe.

i came across this seared sesame spiced beef with sweet pepper, courgette and noodles recipe on bbc good food and instantly decided to do my own take on this. for me, sesame + soy sauce + beef is a winning combination - i'm totally in love the yo sushi sesame salmon.

homemade ravioli filled with sun dried tomatoes and boursin.

as you may have noticed - i'm really getting into pasta making lately. my pasta machine really has been one of the best christmas gifts i've ever received! i've been getting my friends into it making it with me too - which is really fun even if it does test their patience a little :)

so my boyfriend and i decided to have a go at making homemade ravioli - i have to give credit to him that he thought of the sun dried tomato and boursin cheese filling which worked really well.

begin by making the homemade pasta dough as in this post - we used 200g pasta flour and 2 eggs which i find makes 2 portions. then fill with your favourite ingredients like so...

dishoom, covent garden, london.

since my friend grace fled the midlands for the big smoke, i enjoy visiting london for work even more than i did before. she never fails to find us somewhere incredible to go for dinner and dishoom bombay cafe was no exception.

like me, grace loves lots of seafood and interesting veggie dishes (i have a bit of a paneer addiction at the moment) and so i let her take the lead as a dishoom regular/expert/obsessive. everything comes out as and when it is ready so we just chose a few dishes between us. first up was the pau bhaji (£3.90). the toasted pau bun was gorgeous and we kept dipping into the chunky mashed veg sauce for the whole meal.

next came the orka fries (£3.50) and the dishoom calamari (£5.20). i hadn't tried orka fries aka lady fingers before and don't have anything to compare them to. however they were really crispy and delicately spiced which seemed right to me. the indian style calamari was out of this world...

a little picture of the flavours dancing on my plate whilst i waited for the more main dishes.

next to arrive was the mattar paneer (£7.50) and chef's covent garden special (£14.90) which was soft shell crab in an ensemble of tomato, ginger and coconut milk. to accompany (as if we needed it...) we went for steamed basmati rice (£2.20) and a garlic naan (£1.90). not bad prices for london, hey?

homemade vegan pasta.

wow well this was yummy... and i have to give credit to my friend amelia for her amazing vegan pesto, veg and potato pasta recipe :) i've done homemade pasta before since my lovely granny bought me a pasta machine for christmas. however, this was my first go at "vegan pasta" too which involved using water and olive oil instead of egg.

happy birthday chocolate cake.

when i was given this recipe by the mum of one of my best friends (thanks jane, thanks grace!), i instantly knew this would make a brilliant chocolatey birthday cake. a friend of her's came across it in a children's cookery book and swears by it for any special occasion. plus it was a great chance to use my new baking tin. i have to say... it didn't disappoint :)
