borgia bull wine tasting night.

recently i was lucky enough to win a wine tasting evening with nottingham based borgia bull. imagine my excitement when i was told i'd won an evening packed with wine and food from around the world for myself and nine friends? hosted by nottingham rugby player and foodie rupert cooper, the evening was a taste of his new venture into hosting private catering and wine tasting in the comfort of your own home.

coconut mustard tofu with an asian inspired noodle salad.

a colourful combination of an asian inspired cucumber and carrot salad drizzled with soy vinaigrette, topped with sesame tofu marinated in maille coconut mustard and toasted panko breadcrumbs.

lemon curd sponge cake with buttercream roses.

With my Mum's birthday being in March, it often falls very close to Mother's Day. For this reason, I always like to make sure I do separate birthday and Mother's Day things to show doubly how much I care. So last weekend we all got together for an afternoon tea party - complete with an abundance of tea, sandwiches and a very pink vintage inspired cake!

Cake decorating is something I'm really interested in but would like to improve on - so hope you enjoy reading about my creation as much as I loved making it!

wong kwei, ashby-de-la-zouch, leicestershire.

wong kwei chinese restaurant in ashby de la zouch has been there as long as i can remember. if you ever meet someone from ashby, there's not a chance they won't have been there for a meal or grabbed a takeaway. in fact they'll probably reel off their favourite dishes like their phone number.

it's one of our fave places to go for birthdays or christmas catch ups; and having recently dined there i thought it was about time i took my camera and shared it with you.

scallops with chimichurri sauce.

last weekend i thought i'd have my first experiment with homemade chimichurri style sauce. drizzled over pan fried scallops, this recipe is made up of fresh parsley, basil, garlic and cider vinegar.

oi potato, leicester.

gone are the days of boring school dinner veggie burgers made up of sweetcorn and peas. for oi potato in leicester has a fab vegetarian menu set to make any meat eater think twice about tucking into their usual aberdeen angus. this is the sort of place that makes you think about interesting meat-free choices without even branding themselves as a vegetarian restaurant and takeaway.

asparagus and mozzarella risotto with gooey poached egg.

with asparagus coming into full season in the next month or so, i've noticed an abundance of this lovely vegetable hitting vegetable markets and supermarket shelves alike. one of my favourite vegetables (though i'm still not sure what the plural is) i thought it was about time i put up my asparagus and mozzerella risotto recipe. complete with a gooey poached egg.

the basin, loughborough.

i think i may have found the best sesame prawn toast i've ever eaten in my live. where? the basin in loughborough. with a cooked to order menu packed with the best of japanese, chinese and thai cuisine, the basin boasts a beautiful pad thai, succulent sesame prawn toast and refreshing sushi platters. it certainly ticked a lot of boxes for me.

vegan peanut butter shortbread cups.

these little dairy free delights are the vegan answer to reece's peanut butter cups. the vegan millionaire's are layered up with coconut sugar shortbread, almond milk caramel, dark chocolate and hazelnut peanut butter. zero cows were hurt in making this dessert, though i'm afraid many nuts may have suffered.

kingshEATh street food market, birmingham.

last weekend i went along to kingshEATh in the south suburbs of birmingham to explore the street food market. from spicy south american from mexican bean to 18 hour pulled pork from low 'n' slow, there was an array of light bites, sweet treats and feasts for all taste buds.

las iguanas, leicester.

bringing latino vibes to leicester is the fun and friendly fiesta of las iguanas restaurant. with a warm welcome, colourful atmosphere and a south american menu boasting a whole host of meaty grills, delicious seafood and spicy vegetarian and vegan choices, we sat down and joined the party.

muddling mojitos with laimon fresh.

become a mixologist in a matter of minutes with laimon fresh. this all natural sparkling drink is a classic mojito combination of lemon, lime and mint. just add rum and crushed ice. or if you prefer virgin cocktails, this will be perfect for you too.

the pop up smokehouse @ the obar, leicester.

it's official... the obar pop up smokehouse is back! from february 27th, chef liam watson will be sharing his south american inspired dishes with leicester diners. from beautifully 12 hour smoked beef brisket in a harmonising brioche bun to juicy bbq glazed ribs as well as intricate vegetarian alternatives, i returned this weekend to see what the second round had to offer.
