Christmas Drinks Recipe

The Christmas adverts are on the TV, the novelty jumpers are in the shops and most importantly the festive menus are in the restaurants. Now that my birthday is over and done with, I'm alright with embracing the Christmas spirit with open arms. With the theme of all things merry and bright, I've put together this cherry mulled wine recipe with my lovely new festive glasses from Next. With the temperature dropping by the day, I can't wait to make another batch to enjoy around the Christmas tree whilst I'm waiting for Santa.

Shopping list.
♥ A 750ml bottle of fruity, medium bodied red wine
♥ 100ml cherry juice
♥ 2 tbsp brown sugar
♥ 2 tsp cinnamon
♥ 2 tsp mixed spice
♥ Cinnamon sticks

Step one. In a large saucepan, bring all the ingredients together on a very low heat.

Step two. Warm through and stir whilst the sugar dissolves. Keep on the low heat and allow to infuse for at least 30 minutes.

Tip: You can sweeten to taste with extra brown sugar here if you have a sweet tooth. Be careful - it'll be hot!

Step three. If needed, you may want to strain the mulled wine through a sieve.

Step four. Serve warm with a cinnamon stick for decoration. Sliced oranges are also a nice touch.

For this mulled wine recipe in particular I used a middle range Merlot which served as a good quality base without being a waste of a premium bottle of wine. Aim for around the £5-6 mark with fruity tasting notes and you won't go far wrong.

Also in case you were wondering, you can find my pretty mulled wine glasses over in the newly launched Christmas collections at Next. I may even treat myself to the dispenser now too!
