One Aldwych Review

One Aldwych is a five star hotel found nearby Covent Garden and The Strand. Built in the early 1900s, the impressive building has been described as a combination of Edwardian grandeur and Parisian elegance. These days the luxury hotel retains its original charm whilst bringing an up-to-date experience to travellers from London and beyond.

For starters the central location couldn't be more perfect; with nearby theatres, sought after restaurants and the bustling atmosphere of The Strand. For me, I had a view of The Lyceum right from my bedroom window, with theatre-goers lining up for The Lion King that evening.

The welcome to One Aldwych was warm whilst maintaining professionalism. Within seconds my heavy bag was taken off my hands and a speedy check-in and explanation of my room's features meant I could start getting ready for the evening. I was staying over for the Cosmo Blog Awards with an hour to get dolled up so was especially grateful for how welcome and at ease I was made to feel.

I still needed to eat before the awards, so promptly ordered room service and one of their famous cocktails whilst I enjoyed their amazing waterfall shower and fluffy robes. Within half an hour, I was greeted with a delicious Caesar salad, bread and oil beneath a shiny cloche.

I also indulged in their Le Fizz du Jardin cocktail to start off the evening. This was an extra special combination of Grey Goose l'Orange, Saint Germain infused with grapefruit, lime juice, ginger syrup topped with Champagne and gold leaf. It was lovely to take a moment out from the mad rush of the evening to enjoy my salad and sip on an example of marvellous mixology.

A popular theme in hotel reviews has to be the plug socket offering. It sounds silly, but it's so true. One Aldwych most definitely didn't falter with their numerous bedside sockets within reach of a mirror. I really have stayed in a five star hotel that didn't have a mirror in the room - not good!

This meant a social media addict like myself could happily charge up my phone(s) and camera whilst blissfully styling my hair for the evening. A must for me! The lighting and mirrors in the beautifully designed bathroom were also excellent, with event a set of scales beneath the sink. (Although as a foodie, this probably wasn't a good time to check my weight...)

Before I knew it and I was ready to leave for the awards - which I'm sure if you follow me on Instagram and Twitter you heard lots about. I met some super talented bloggers and thoroughly enjoyed my evening with like-minded online folk.

Morning rolled around and I just didn't want to leave that extravagant king size bed with sink-into pillows. The lighting controls meant I could wake up in my own time ready for their breakfast and access to the One Aldwych spa facilities. If needed, you can also request a morning paper, wake up call and breakfast in bed.

I indulged in a morning bath - how could I resist - with their delicious bath salts and bubbles. It was such a pleasure to wake up in that room, especially opening the curtains to let natural light shine on the original art work. I pottered downstairs to enjoy the One Aldwych breakfast, which is served between 7-11am. I opted for the vegetarian breakfast, which came with your choice of eggs, avocado, spinach, mushroom, tomato, veggie sausage and the usual breakfast beverages.

At 10.30 I'd booked in for a back, shoulder and neck massage, which was just the ticket after a late night socialising with fellow bloggers. You'll find the spa and leisure suite downstairs, decorated in clean and calming colours with up-to-date literature, flavoured waters and unlimited fresh fruit to get you in a tranquil mood.

My massage therapist took me through a variety of oils and scents with detailed explanations, allowing me to choose my favourite to suit me. They were all super moisturising so predominately I picked based on scent; from lavender to rose fragrances I settled on an inviting tangerine oil.

The spa also uses mostly Oskia skincare and candles to set the mood for ultimate relaxation. Before long I was enjoying a deep, relaxing massage treatment, unravelling tight knots that I often get towards the top of my back. That'll probably be from hunching at a desk and leaning over my cooker, then.

As you can tell, I can't say a bad word about my experience at One Aldwych. Although I was there for a complimentary stay, many of the staff had no idea I was reviewing my experience and yet still excelled anyway. I went along for a birthday treat for their Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea last year too, which I has a similarly outstanding service and entirely endorse.

I would recommend One Alwdych hotel to those who are looking for a luxury experience in London, within striking distance of some of the city's popular restaurant and theatre hotspots. It would be especially perfect for a romantic getaway, city break or mother and daughter shopping weekend.

Have you ever been to One Aldwych? What are your favourite five star hotels in London?
