salamanca tapas bar, dublin.

Salamanca Dublin Review

A gem of a tapas restaurant in the centre of Dublin. Found on St. Andrew Street in Dublin 2, Salamanca serves up tempting tapas dishes from midday until late, every day. With a vibrant orange front, wrought iron lighting, handwritten chalk boards and lush greenery, the Spanish restaurant instantly grasps you with its Mediterranean charm. Inside it is deceptively spacious, as the friendly waiting staff take you past a well stocked wine bar to the rows of seating within. The interior continues the expected theme; think long candlesticks, wooden seating and large mirrors met with burnt orange walls and rich red trims.

We began our evening with a bottle of Freixenet Mia White; a Spanish white with hints of apple, pear, orange blossom and honey. Refreshing and light, this came in at a respectable €22.95 for the bottle. As you'd expect most of their wines are Spanish, with a few South American thrown in - perfect for alongside tapas.

Of course in true tapas style we chose a few dishes to mix, match and share. The tricky part! After much deliberation, we opted for the medium Seafood Paella (10.95), Croquetas de Jamon (€6.50), Chorizo Picante (€7.95), Spanish Meatballs (€6.95) and Patata Rellena (€7.95), which are stuffed potato skins with bacon, brie, honey and caramelised onion. Most of the options were chosen with my mum in mind, as she isn't a big seafood or fish fan. Had I had my way there would definitely have been some gambas and calamares on the table... But how good does that seafood paella look?!

All dishes were excellent in their own right, with the beef and pork meatballs being a winner for both of us. As for the seafood paella, with a mix of prawns, king prawns, mussels and squid dotted throughout, I could eat it all over again. All were great portions too, in particular the huge amount of sliced chorizo in red wine. The only dish I wouldn't reorder would be the Serrano ham croquettas. A much as they were delicious they were forgettable too.

Salamanca Tapas Dublin Review

Overall I wholeheartedly recommend Salamanca to tapas lovers visiting the city. Suggested by a local, I can see why this place is still so popular nearly 15 years on. The place was bustling even by 6pm, so I'd definitely book in advance!
