macaroni ham 'n' cheese.

An indulgent twist on the classic macaroni cheese – perfect for the colder nights and rainy weekends. Cosy up with a comforting bowl of mac ‘n’ cheese, featuring the extra treat of slow cooked ham. From Fire & Smoke, their low and slow fired grilled hams are packed with mouthwatering flavours that are delicious as part of a recipe or on their own. Ideal for creating the ultimate American inspired dish, their glazed pork joints are grilled over crackling flames and then wood smoked for extra flavour. Along with a creamy cheese sauce and pasta, this recipe makes for the ultimate comfort food!

(Serves two generous portions)
♥ 250g macaroni pasta
♥ 40g butter
♥ 40g milk
♥ 750ml milk
♥ 90g your favourite cheese, grated, plus extra to sprinkle on top
♥ Salt and pepper to season
♥ Two 100g packs of Fire & Smoke ham – I used a medley of the Slow Cooked Fire Grilled Ham and Ham Shavings torn into rough pieces

Step one. Cook your pasta in boiling water according to packet instructions, which should take about 10-12 minutes.

Step two. Begin your cheese sauce by melting the butter in a saucepan. Add in the flour and stir together for around a minute to form a paste.

Step three. Pour in your milk gradually, continuously stirring. After around 5-10 minutes, the sauce should start to thicken.

Preheat your oven to 180 degrees C.

Step four. Add your grated cheese to the sauce (saving some for the topping) and stir together until melted.

Step five. When your pasta is cooked, drain and stir through the cheese sauce and most of the ham. Pour into your desired oven proof dishes.

Step six. Scatter the remaining cheese, ham and a twist of black pepper over the macaroni cheese and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden.

How do you make your macaroni cheese? Have you ever tried a twist on the classic mac ‘n’ cheese recipe?
