breakfast at gee's, oxford.

Just outside of Oxford city centre and past a few of the beautiful university parks, you'll find the decadent glass house that is Gee's. As well as serving up trendy cocktails and curating three course meals, the elegant glass conservatory, bar and terrace is said to do a rather good breakfast. Turns out the rumours are true.

The glass conservatory really is something to behold, with beautiful light shining through onto the metallic features and geometric flooring. You're met with an abundance of leafy and lush greenery (an Instagrammers dream) with a mix of sturdy wood tables, sleek marble tops and quirky chairs.

I stereotypically went for the smoked salmon, poached egg and avocado on sour dough, whilst my other half went for the full English. I also opted for a side of chorizo - just because. There's no avoiding that this is a pricy menu, with mine coming in at £10.50 and the full English at £12.95. But it was a treat, and from what I'd heard I was prepared to blow the budget.

As I'd hoped, all elements of my brunch were just divine. My favourite things in a breakfast, all done so well. Cue running poached egg, excellent quality salmon and well seasoned avocado. The chorizo sausage was the perfect mix of spicy and juicy. All washed down with a rather pretty flat white, of course.

The full English looked great too, with excellent quality meat, bread and vibrant tomatoes. I didn't try the scrambled egg myself; although it looked rather wet it was light and creamy with added texture in the chives.

With a bottle of still water coming in at £3.25, a couple of drinks and a 10% service charge, the bill soon rose up to a rather steep £40.56. In comparison to the East Midlands of course, the bill would be slashed in half even in the loveliest of independents.

This being said, I'm not seeing this as a negative. We both really loved the breakfast, had great service and enjoyed a stunning setting that I was happy to pay for. It felt like a treat, that I would recommend for a special breakfast or birthday brunch.

Have you ever been to Gee's? What are your favourite breakfasts in Oxford or Oxfordshire?

  1. That is a pricey brunch! That said the setting looks gorgeous and the egg pretty perfect. Though I haven't ever paid near that for a brunch in London...

  2. It’s a lot isn’t it? I’m putting it down as a treat. Without the bottled water and service charge it would have seemed more reasonable I guess xx
