Who doesn't love a Sunday lunch, really? So many combinations, so many traditions. Whether you're a veggie, meat eater, Yorkshire pudding obsessive or insist upon roast potatoes every Sunday... everyone has their favourite way to enjoy a roast.
A local pal and I have since decided to start a little Sunday lunch club. I mean, it's just us and every roast we can eat in Leicestershire. But it's going well so far. One I was particularly fond of recently was The Windmill in Brascote. I'd been recommended the restaurant a few times, so it felt about time to venture out.
Roasted Leg of English Lamb
with homemade herb stuffing / rosemary + redcurrant stock gravy
Roasted Loin of Pork
with homemade herb stuffing / cider + sage stock gravy / crackling
Roasted British Rump of Beef
with homemade Yorkshire pudding / stock gravy
Spinach & Wild Mushroom Alfredo
with linguini / cream / parmesan (optional)(v)
Cod & Baby Spinach Bake
with creamed mash / mature cheddar
I'm usually a fan of beef but when my friend ordered lamb I knew I had to copy to avoid potential food envy. A friendly, prompt service and happy diners around us gave a lovely and cosy atmosphere whilst we waited for our grub. Soon we were tucking in to succulent lamb, delicious roast parsnips and top notch roasties. Oh and a Yorkshire, we were pleased all roasts come with one of those.
To finish, we somehow had room to sample their desserts. I went for a chocolatey, nutty brownie and she a caramel cheesecake. We couldn't fault them, really. I have a lovely cuppa too, no idea how I had room.
