homemade beer burgers with beerwulf.com.

Beer and burgers; no-one can doubt they make for a delicious combination. I love a homemade burger stacked up with my favourite toppings and served with skin on fries. Throw in an ice cold beer on a sunny day and you're on to a winner. I've recently teamed up with Beerwulf.com to try out the latest addition to their beer packs, especially for Father's Day. I thought it made sense to put their beers into some tasty burger patties, alongside various paired cheeses.

For those who aren't familiar with Beerwulf.com, they're an online craft and speciality beer shop with loads to choose from. You can discover something new with their variety packs or handpick your own box from your favourites. There are also some helpful reviews and tasting notes over on their site to help you pick the perfect box. At the moment they actually have an offer with the promo code discount5 which entitles you to £5 discount off a £25 minimum spend.

As I mentioned, Beerwulf.com sent me the 16 Bottle Father's Day Box (£31.95 or currently £26.95 with the promotion code discount5). Whether he's into IPA or loves an amber ale, there's a great selection of either 12, 16 or 20 beers in their 2018 offerings. From Van Vollenhoven Falcon Ale to First Chop HOP, there's something for every dad, grandpa, uncle or special someone in your life.

I've created a recipe which means whatever your favourite beer or cheese, you can re-create it too. In my experiment I went with the Siren Undercurrent, Ninkasi French IPA and Magic Rock High Wire Grapefruit. The Siren's tasting notes mentioned pairing well with Camembert, so that was an easy decision; I made the patty with garlic and rosemary to really match this up. To go with the smooth French IPA from Ninkasi Fabriques, I opted for a French Brie. It mentions going well with salami so I matched with crispy smoky bacon too. The grapefruit pale ale was a tricky one; I decided to go with chilli flakes and a strong Cheddar to bring out the tropical flavours.

Fancy making them yourself? Here's how...

Shopping list.
For one beer burger patty
♥ 150g good quality beef mince per burger
♥ 10g free range egg, beaten (One medium egg is usually around 60g so one egg will serve three)
♥ A large splash of your chosen beer
♥ Salt and pepper to season
♥ Brioche buns to serve, toasting optional

For the Camembert cheeseburger patty
♥ 1 tsp dried rosemary
♥ One crushed garlic clove
♥ Sliced red onion, caramelised for 2-3 minutes with Balsamic vinegar
♥ One slice of Camembert cheese

For the spicy chilli and Cheddar cheese burger
♥ 1 tsp chipotle chilli flakes
♥ 1 tsp red chilli flakes
♥ Baby spinach leaves
♥ One slice of strong, mature Cheddar cheese

For the Brie and bacon burger
♥ Two slices of French Brie
♥ Two slices of crispy smoked, thick cut bacon

Step one. If you're making multiple burgers, firstly weigh and divide out your beef mince.

Step two. Add a little egg, chosen seasoning and a splash of beer. Allow to infuse in the fridge on a plate for at least 30 minutes. You'd be surprised how much the patty soaks up the beer.

Step three. Heat up a griddle pan with a little oil and cook for around 5-7 minutes a side, until cooked through.

Remember when cooking beef mince you should not have this rare as it is different to cooking a steak; read more about cooking burgers safely here.

Step four. When the burger is a minute or so from being ready, add your desired cheese and allow to melt.

Step five. Serve up in a squidgy brioche bun and enjoy! (Try it alongside the beer your made it with - delish!)

Have you tried beer in homemade burgers? What are your favourite burger recipe combinations? Or maybe you've tried Beerwulf.com? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
