mextrade mexican night + giveaway!

As you may know, I love a chance to host a themed night! I've been to known to enjoy a loaded bowl of nachos with a slow cooked chilli and lime infused rice - who wouldn't? So when the lovely lot at Mextrade sent me a selection of their spicy goodies, it made perfect sense to whip up some guacamole and get those Coronas in the fridge!

I explained to Mextrade HQ that although I looove Mexican food I prefer the smoky, milder flavours - nothing that would blow my head off! They put together a parcel of Mole Doña Chonita, Refried Black Beans, Salsa para Enchiladas Verdes, Salsa de Chile Chipotle, Rajas de Jalapeño and Chipotles. In the package there were also some fragrant Hibiscus Flowers, a smoked Chipotle Meco and a beautiful painted Mexican Talavera spoon.

I hadn't tried mole before, so for those who haven't either, it's a traditional sweet and spicy made with cocoa beans, chillies, nuts and smoky spices. I decided to slow cook some beef brisket in chipotle spices for 8-10 hours and pour over mole to finish. Alongside this, I went for refried black beans, salsa, guacamole, nachos and spicy lime rice.

For this I tried out the Mextrade Salsa de Chile Chipotle, which is milder than the chipotle chillies themselves. Instead it's very smoky and sweet - just like a smooth tomato salsa with a bit more personality1

I also brought out some extra wraps, dips and the like. Mexican food makes for such good dinner parties and casual gatherings, since you can leave everything out for people to try (whether they're spice wimps or warriors!)

The chipotles and rajas de jalapeños were the hottest of the bunch, which did scare me a little. Instead these can be cooled down with soured cream or scattered with feta. I'm definitely going to try it with cream cheese for a little kick!

The Mexican products were such brilliant quality and really held their flavour in the packaging. Having been to Mexico myself, I really felt the dishes were authentic and also quite unusual without being too crazy! Mole is especially brilliant with chilli, as you can imagine the chocolate element enhances the taste so much.

If you've come this far - I'm guessing you love Mexican food too! Here's your chance to win a selection of Mextrade goodies, chosen by them based on your own spicy preferences!

Simply enter via the Rafflecopter below to enter, letting me know your favourite Mexican dish. The closing date is 12th August. Good luck!

Note: I was sent a selection of Mextrade products for my consideration. The prize is also complimentary of Mextrade.
