my new kitchen tour.

If you follow my little space over on my social media channels, you may have seen I recently bought my first home - yay! With exciting times ahead, I was lucky that the home I found already suited a lot of the decor from my rented house. My kitchenware featured a lot of natural wooden elements, country cottage inspired pieces and some quirky finds too. My favourite colour is also green, so those lovely tiles worked in my favour. I have to admit, as most foodies would, the kitchen was top of my buying priorities. And I definitely fell head over heels for this one. Since the move, I thought I'd finally share with you a little kitchen tour and a few new kitchenware buys for my home from the likes of Joseph Joseph, Next and Orla Kiely.

First up is the lovely Belfast sink and solid oak tops. Since moving, I've had these sanded back so that I could treat them with Danish oil. I'm really pleased with the result too - it sets off the beautiful grain so well. Again, those tiles get a mention against the cream cabinets. The previous owners did such a lovely job on the colour scheme, choosing Dulux's Overtly Olive for the walls.

I knew I had to get a radio for the kitchen too, nearly opting for one of the stunning vintage inspired Roberts designs. Instead I found this Goodmans 1960s style Oxford radio in Mustard. There are some gorgeous colours aswell, as I toyed with the shades of Moss Green or Porcelain.

I've always loved Joseph Joseph products and already had their Chop2Pot, utensil carousel and garlic press, which I use almost every day. When they reached out with a few of their new products, I couldn't wait to get my hands on their Bamboo Chop2Pot (£15), adorable vegetable inspired Worktop Saver (£11.90) and their Sink Tidy Caddy (£20) and matching Dish Brush (£8), which I think coordinate with the colour scheme really well.

On the other side of the kitchen is a lovely Rangemaster cooker, along with my Tefal Actifry and KitchenAid mixer - complete with cover handmade by my lovely mum. I also have my Hemingway Carnival tea, sugar and coffee jars as well as Robert Welch knives which my dad buys me each birthday and Christmas.

And a kitchen wouldn't be complete with out a constant supply of Yorkshire tea! I've been brewing up my cuppas with my new matching Next kettle and toaster in putty. I never realised how convenient a four slot toaster was until now!

A few other really useful products I've been testing out are the Rotary Peeler (£14) and 2-in-1 Measuring Jug (£14). Both are multipurpose items which mean they take up less space and yet can be used for so many tasks around the kitchen. I love how the peeler (which would be great for right or left handed people) also as a julienne style blade too. So far, so good!

The adjoining dining area is perfect for hosting too. By the cosy log burning fire, I have my oak dining table and a display cabinet for my vintage crockery. The finishing touches come in the form of Orla Kiely place mats (a birthday present from my mum), seating pads from The Range, framed pasta wrapping paper from Paperchase and a Tesco floral apron to match my tea towels (again from my mum - she's good isn't she?)

What do you think to my kitchen styling? I'd love to hear about your kitchen and dining spaces!

  3. A gorgeous space Emily. My kitchen is also painted in Dulux's Overtly Olive and I have those tiles too but in white! I'm impressed to see you sanded down and sorted out your benchtops. I need to do that to mine, but literally have no idea where to start! A ceramic sink is a blessing and a curse so my one piece of advice is to be careful. I have lost numerous cafetiere glasses and mugs dropping and crashing them in there :(
