garden cinema and pizzas at the bull and swan, stamford.

Freshly made pizza? Check. A favourite film? Check? Twinkly lights and cosy surroundings? Double check. Now at The Bull and Swan in Stamford, you can enjoy their comfy garden cinema with a slice of inviting Italian goodness from their new Pizza Potting Shed. That's if the weather behaves. Though they put the film on no matter what, so if you have strong willpower, a strong appetite and a strong brolly, you can still come along.

We went along on a temperamental British Summer evening to indulge in the romantic musical comedy, La La Land. They have a variety of film nights and themed months to choose from though, and it doesn't cost any extra to watch them either. From Pretty Woman to Dunkirk and Titanic to Avengers, they even screen special sports evenings and have a Halloween themed night planned.

On most film nights the showing will start at 7.30 and early arrival is recommended for securing your seat and a snug blanket. The pizza oven is fired up between 6-9pm so it's a good idea to get your order in straight away before the film begins. So here's how it works. There are a variety of amazing toppings, ranging from chorizo to goats cheese and salami to broad beans, grown in their very own allotment beside. You get a classic Margherita for £8.50 and then pay for your toppings as you wish - for the ultimate personalised pizza heaven! For anyone that has ever eaten at The Bull & Swan at Burghley or any of the Hillbrooke Hotels, you'll know the food is top notch too.

We went for a spinach, goats cheese and chorizo ensemble as well as a prosciutto and mushroom combination. With a crispy base, slightly charred edge and bubbling cheese, the Parmesan and rocket topped delights were very well received. Wouldn't you agree they look delicious?

La La Land was, well, La La Land. I'd forgotten how much I love that film. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are just... well. Definitely a great choice to watch outside by lantern and starry lights. In the end, the weather improved too and we didn't need the umbrella after all.

Overall, I definitely urge you to go along to one of their adult or kids showings. Or if you aren't local to the area, find somewhere that does something similar. I've been to the larger scale showings hosted by the National Trust and this was just so much more cosy, of course with a nearby bar and more atmospheric lighting around. The only thing I would say is there should be more table service or cute snacks, as I'd have definitely bought more drinks or treats if I didn't have to queue at the bar. In all though, the service was great and the food was delicious; homemade pizza and outdoor cinema concept absolutely nailed.

Have you been along to the new Pizza Potting Shed? What film would you like to see in the garden cinema?

I was invited for a complimentary meal and film at The Bull and Swan for an honest review. All opinions are my own and I wasn't expected to write a positive review or otherwise.

  2. We went there for Sunday lunch a few months ago, the food was lovely but the service was awful! The cinema idea is a nice one and I would give them another try!
