Vegan Sausage Rolls

Bringing together delicious flaky pastry and comforting filling, there's something very welcoming about a homemade sausage roll straight from the oven. Whether you're already vegan or plant based, taking part in Veganuary, trying to cut down your meat consumption or are just curious, you may have tried out a vegan sausage roll this January. Looking for a similar recipe? Here's how to make homemade vegan sausage rolls with just three simple, ready-to-go ingredients.

I love vegetarian sausage rolls anyway and often use the likes of Linda McCartney, Quorn and Good Life in my cooking. For these, I used Fry's vegan sausages as they were most like the kind you get in a classic sausage roll, though Quorn are similar too I could only find vegetarian. You'll find lots of pre-made puff pastry sheets are dairy free too; so you can use Jus Rol as well as many supermarket own offerings for all your pastry needs. They also worked out at around £3 for 6 vegan sausage rolls, with the added convenience that the main two ingredients are from the freezer aisle.

So how did I make these mouthwatering homemade vegan sausage rolls? Scroll on for the super easy recipe...

Shopping list.
For six sausage rolls
♥ A ready to roll dairy free puff pastry sheet
♥ Six vegan sausages
♥ Olive oil or dairy free spread to glaze

Preheat your oven to 180 degrees and line a baking sheet.

Step one. Simply fold one edge of the puff pastry over your first sausage, press down, and cut the excess. Because of the size of the sheet and sausages, I was able to do two at a time.

Step two. Glaze with olive oil, or melted dairy free spread, and cut slits in the pastry.

Step three. Line up on your baking tray and bake for around 20-30 minutes, until cooked and golden.   You may want to check half way to see how they are getting on and if you need to turn the tray.

Eat when still slightly warm for maximum "mmm" factor!

Keep for up to 3 days in an airtight container, and reheat once in a microwave or oven if needed.

Have you tried a vegan sausage roll? Would you give this homemade plant based sausage roll recipe a go? If you like these, you might like my vegetarian no sausage rolls, which contain a mix of carrot, mushroom, onion, mustard and cheese all wrapped up in pastry. Perfect for a picnic!
