My mum has been collecting all sorts of beautiful vintage crockery of late - including a full four serving set with sugar bowl and milk jug, as well as a Royal Albert teapot. So for her birthday I couldn't wait to treat her to a homemade afternoon tea at her home.
Planning classic sandwiches, the usual suspects were salmon and cucumber, egg mayonaise, ham, cucumber and cheese. To accompany we enjoyed English Breakfast and Earl Grey tea, with double chocolate brownies (not so traditional) and a bright pink birthday cake to finish.
As you can see I had lots of crockery, various cake stands and posh forks to work with. So whilst my mum was away for her birthday at a rural Leicestershire hotel, I got to work on baking, decorating and most importantly... cutting off those crusts!
With the brownies made, the rose buttercream lemon cake decorated and all attempts to keep the sandwiches as fresh as possible, it was time to decorate the table.
Aren't they so lovely? I couldn't stop snapping away.
Once family and friends had arrived, it was time to arrange the sarnies on the cake stand, take the milk jug out of the fridge and boil the kettle!
Happy Birthday Mum! ♥
