deliveroo leaps to leicester.

Bringing tasty takeaway dishes direct to your door, Deliveroo is taking over our UK cities one delivery at a time. Their mission is to simplify the takeaway, with a well researched host of fantastic quality restaurants ready for any occasion. It's not just for Friday night takeaways over Netflix either. If you're looking for picnic in the park, grub for a gathering or munch over a meeting, they've got you covered.

Luckily for Leicester folk, they've recently set up shop in Leicester too. With Nottingham already established and Derby on the way, Deliveroo is really getting the East Midlands talking about their premium takeaways. So, if you're perusing the Leicester offerings and wondering what to try next, here are a few of my personal favourites to get you started...

Crafty Burger
Recent winners of UK Burger Battle in Leicester, this is the Midlands burger to beat. Made with top notch 28 day aged beef, Leicestershire cheese and squidgy local Leicester buns (or cobs, if you're feeling regional) from Milners Bakery of Blaby, their juicy burgers get 10/10 on the flavour scale. The Crafty veggie burger is pretty awesome too. No cop outs here, their vegetarian option is a a croquette of smoked Applewood, red pepper and roasted flat mushroom, sandwiched with paprika aioli and pickled red onions.

Available: Thursday - Saturday
6-9pm

Kuru Kuru Sushi
The contender for Leicester's tiniest restaurant, you'd be wise to order delivery from Kuru Kuru. Not only because their sushi is incredible, but also because you can seat no more than 5 people in their establishment. With the likes of ebi tempura, mixed sashimi and salmon and avocado inside out rolls cooked to order by head chef Shyiam, you'd be mad as miso to miss out on these dishes. Remember it's not all raw fish either - oodles of noodles and katsu curry are must-try dishes. Plus in the comfort of your own home, noone can judge you for ordered a Japanese banquet.

Available:
Monday - Saturday
12-2.45pm & 5-10pm

Queen of Bradgate
Found in the city centre, Queen of Bradgate would be the perfect delivery if you're in need of a brilliant breakfast or hearty pub grub. Mains include the likes of pie of the day, honey baked gammon and scampi with chips. Perfect Sunday food. I wholeheartedly recommend the award winning 8oz sirloin steak from Owen Taylor's butchers in Derbyshire.

Available:
Monday - Saturday
12-9pm
Sunday
12-5pm

The Smokehouse at The Obar
Forgot to put the slow cooker on? No fear. The Smokehouse have been cooking your dinner all day for you, you just didn't know it. With seasonal specials and smokey favourites, be sure to try their 12 hour smoked beef brisket bun. Failing that, I'd happily take an entire Deliveroo box full of their creamy garlic and thyme butter mash with gravy.

Available:
Tuesday - Saturday
6-10pm

PETER PIZZERIA
Serving up sourdough pizza left, right and centre, PETER is the one to watch on the Leicester pizza scene. If I'm honest, all you need is the simple margarita for perfectly formed flavours. But if I had to tell you my favourite, it'd be number 6. That's prawn, rocket, mozzarella, sweet cherry tomatoes and parmesan shavings on a sourdough base. Those with a gluten free diet will be pleased to know that there are gluten free base offerings aswell. It doesn't stop there either. Just imagine getting Nutella pizza sent to your door. Imagine. Now go and order it.

Available:
Monday - Sunday
12-9.45pm

Salvador Deli
Although I haven't reviewed this one yet, I can fully vouch for how delicious their food is. That's because during my time at University of Leicester, I used to work there. Their cheese and meat deli offerings are just fantastic, so make sure you go for one of their premium sandwiches packed with great quality ingredients. Or if you're looking for something to share, their deli platters are second to none.

Available:
Monday - Saturday
12-3.45pm

With a whole host of brilliant independent restaurants all with their distinctive styles and cuisines, there really is something for everyone. It's great to think that anyone in Leicester city can now have restaurant quality food to their door in minutes (currently an average of 32 minutes per order at that).

  1. Looks great! I live in a semi-rural area so although I can get the usual pizza/Indian delivered, there's not much more choice than that.

  2. What a fab idea this is Emily. All we can get here is Chinese or Indian so it would be fantastic for locals in our neck of the woods. A delivery of good quality sushi would be heaven indeed.
