cinnamon mince pies.

A twist on the traditional mince pie recipe, I've bended the rules slightly to include of my favourite festive spices. So I wasn't much of a fan of mince pies growing up, but I think I've acquired a taste in recent years of homemade ones. In particular, where they feature a little festive twist. Last year I made Bakewell tart inspired mince pies and Christmas pudding brownies. This is - cinnamon mince pies! The cinnamon is mixed in with the sweet shortcrust pastry and they're topped with cinnamon sugar for good measure. Ho ho ho...

Shopping list.
(Makes twelve)
♥ 100g unsalted butter
♥ 200g plain flour, plus extra for your surfaces
♥ 2 tsp cinnamon, plus extra for dusting
♥ A little water
♥ Good quality mincemeat
♥ Icing sugar for dusting

Step one. Crumble together the butter and flour until they resemble breadcrumbs. Add in the cinnamon and mix.

Step two. Add in a tiny bit of water to gradually bring your pastry into a ball. Wrap in bring film and chill for about 30 mins.

Step three. Dust your surfaces and roll out the pastry into circle and heart shapes.

Preheat your oven to 180 degrees C.

Step four. Place the pastry circles in your tin and add the mincemeat, then top with the hearts (or whatever design you fancy!)

Bake for 12-15 minutes until the pastry is hard and golden. Dust with a 50/50 mix of cinnamon and icing sugar!

Have you ever made a twist on the classic mince pie recipes? What are your thoughts on mince pies - yes or no?
