festive afternoon tea at harriet's secret tearoom.

Mum and I have been up to lots of festive things lately; including making a chocolate christmas wreath and going to the christmas party at the birmingham coast to coast. So to top it off, it made sense to go for a little festive afternoon tea. We headed over to Harriet's Secret Tearoom in Melton Mowbray to sample their Christmas style lunch with beautiful mismatched vintage crockery and cutlery.

Amendment: This tea room sadly doesn't exist anymore but there is a new tea room in its place - I'm yet to try.

for £12, the festive afternoon tea for two included a choice from turkey and cranberry, salmon and cream cheese and brie and chutney finger sandwiches followed by scones or mince pie and whatever cake of you fancy from their lovely spread. you also get a pot of your favourite tea each. pretty generous hey? :)

so we went for salmon and cream cheese on brown bread and turkey and cranberry on white bread. whilst we waited we of course... poured ourselves a cuppa!

how lovely are the teaspoons? also debut picture of "mummy recipes and reviews" on the blog :) i went for english breakfast tea whilst mum had earl grey.

those sarnies didn't last long at all - the bread was soft and the filling was cool and fresh. i'm kind of glad there weren't any more as we had those giant scones to get through!

with indulgent clotted cream and strawberry jam. not very festive but i think we've both already had too many mince pies this december!

by the way there were lots of people milling in and out but i tried to avoid taking pictures of them in case they didn't fancy being on the internet... i thought it was lovely actually as they do discounted cups of tea for the local bus drivers :) there were handmade christmas wreaths being sold too.

after a very cosy and comforting festive tea we decided to take away the cakes. we went for almond cream which was almost like a bakewell cake... yum!

we then had a potter around melton - of course stopping by the official pork pie shop on the way home!

you might be a little late for their festive tea now  but i'm sure in the new year it would be worth visiting for the usual afternoon tea menu at harriet's secret tearoom. all in all - a lovely find!
