it's official... the obar pop up smokehouse is back! from february 27th, chef liam watson will be sharing his south american inspired dishes with leicester diners. from beautifully 12 hour smoked beef brisket in a harmonising brioche bun to juicy bbq glazed ribs as well as intricate vegetarian alternatives, i returned this weekend to see what the second round had to offer.
if you've even been to any of the midlands based orange tree bars, you'll know they're renowned for a hodge-podge of mismatched furniture in mellow lighting, walls full of local artists selling their work, stacks of board games and a pretty impressive cocktail menu. some also serve food by day (a cracking roast) and have a couple of sister clubs too. in my opinion, if there was ever the perfect place for a pop up restaurant in leicester - this is it.
when i came last year i had a beef brisket special; sharing fennel and jalapeno slaw and creamy mash with my housemates. i noticed the incredible brisket had made it was a full time resident on the new menu - could they fit anymore succulent beef in that bun?! toying between the ribs and 14 hour pork, i went for the pulled pork with pork chilli. for sides, we went for the infamous creamy mash with cheese and chive butter and house gravy and barbecue beans with burnt ends.
my absolutely favourites were the melting pulled pork chilli con carne with sour cream and the heavenly mash. though i saw macaroni cheese on the table beside me and have to say i felt pretty jealous. they also have some pretty awesome sounding desserts such as key lime pie and sticky toffee pudding with bourbon sauce - something i'll have to go back for when i have more room!
so what are you waiting for? head down to the o bar smokehouse on braunstone gate in leicester quick smart! or if you're ready this months later, sorry about that, i can only hope they invent time travel or the o bar comes back to stay...
find out more at the o bar smokehouse facebook or on twitter @the_obar ♥
note: i was invited to the smokehouse for a complementary meal to review their menu. all opinions are my own.
This place looks great, I love all the wooden decor :)
