festive afternoon tea at the hyatt regency, birmingham.

you all know i love afternoon tea and i certainly love christmas. combine the two and you get the best of both worlds; delicate sandwiches filled with the likes of turkey, cranberry and brie, festive takes on the classic scone and the gentle scent of warm mulled wine swirling across the table. myself and a few other midlands bloggers went along to sample the festive afternoon tea at the hyatt regency birmingham, which will launch on 1st december, starting from £19 a head.

tea orders were taken for those who were driving (sadly myself, but earl grey is almost as good as a tipple), whilst others sampled the warming festive spices of the mulled wine. i did have a tiny sip and it was lovely and rich, however rather alcoholic. 

not long afterwards, the table was decorated with around eight cake stands full of festive afternoon tea treats. the scones were warm, the sandwiches soft and the cakes looked as inviting as they sounded. 

my favourite sandwiches were most definitely the brie and the smoked salmon. fantastic quality fresh ingredients and i had to stop myself in order to make room for cake sampling. i'm only sad i didn't have my usual camera to give a better picture of the incredible food and beautiful high ceilings of the hotel.

the thing about christmas desserts is they always have an element of fruit to them, which i'm not always keen on. in the interests of food blogging duties i tried them all and was impressed, although was never going to be overly excited about the apple dessert or orange slice on a cake. the profiteroles reminded me of an apple strudel, which although i'm crazy enough not to like i know lots of people would love them.

between layers of silky cream, the light sponge of the chestnut slice was heavenly too. although my absolute favourite were the scones, which just had a touch of cranberry and orange but with the usual texture you'd expect from a scone. perfectly baked and dangerously moreish.

overall a fantastically festive afternoon tea just a walk away from the twinkly lights of the birmingham wheel, which i'm sure many people will be enjoying this december.

i've got two more festive afternoon teas booked this month... so i really best dig out my running shoes.
