Afternoon Tea at Cadbury World Review

A magical place where the likes of Wispa, Flake Crunchie, Creme Eggs and the infamous Dairy Milk are made. Founded in 1824, Cadbury are best known for their deliciously milky chocolate and bright purple branding.

For years, school kids and big kids alike have travelled to the Bournville based factory to learn how chocolate is made, explore choccy related games and of course... have a few cheeky samples themselves. But now, you can also enjoy afternoon tea at Cadbury World too! As one of my favourite pastimes, I naturally jumped at the chance to try their chocolate afternoon tea.

After a wander around the history of chocolate exhibition and a casual ride on the Cadabra (yes, it's for children), we sat down in the Cadbury cafe to await our afternoon tea. This colour always makes me laugh as my primary school uniform was this exact colour purple - including purple gingham dresses for Summer!

The Cadbury afternoon tea menu includes ham, cheese and salmon sandwiches with an option for gluten free bread. There is then of course the obligatory scones and a selection of cakes, most of which are chocolate based. We were offered a choice of English breakfast tea or coffee - so I'm afraid no crazy tea choices for you tea heads.

Coming on two tone bread, the sandwiches were colourful and fun. They weren't the most delicately presented, but I think children would love these for an exciting alternative to lunch. The bread was incredibly spongy and the fillings fresh and great quality.

Next up were the scones. The gloriously huge scones. A generous portion of thick cream, great quality strawberry jam and a good crumble, these went down well. The waitress happily and dutifully asked us if we wanted more tea, which we did, although I couldn't help but fancy an Earl Grey. It also struck me that there were chocolate teapots in the gift shop, which personally I think would have be fantastic to use in the afternoon tea.

Another tier later and we were onto the real deal - the chocolate part! This was a brownie, millionaire's shortbread and rocky road. I'm not a fan of rocky road (nor are my teeth) but the caramel shortbread went down well and the brownie had lots of squidge factor.

It was great for them to include the classic chocolate desserts here but I really think they could have got on board with branding here. How about a Flake brownie, followed by a Creme Egg rocky road and Curly Wurly shortbread? Maybe even a few Roses chocolates scattered about or... Crunchie macarons? *wink*

I loved this coconut tart and the macarons were really tasty too, coming in coffee or lemon flavours. More tea was topped up by the friendly staff, and we were unsurprisingly left fit to burst.

The Cadbury afternoon tea is really great and I think it would be a great addition to a day out at the exhibition. Plus, a tour of the usual attractions along with an afternoon tea is a total of £19.95 per person. No bad, since an adult ticket is £16.25 alone.

Although there are a few personal tweaks I mentioned, it's only new and perhaps the menu will develop and change with the season. I would definitely recommend the experience, but I'd love it even more if they poured me hot chocolate from a chocolate teapot! A girl can dream...

Afternoon tea is available from Monday to Friday, and is only valid on attraction entry between 12.40pm and 1.30pm with the Afternoon Tea to follow. Not available during school holidays. The pictured afternoon tea is for two people. Afternoon tea can be booked up to midday the day before your visit.

Have you ever had chocolate afternoon tea? What is your favourite Cadbury chocolate bar?

Note: We were guests of Cadbury World. All opinions are honest and my own.

  1. This is such a cool idea! I really hope they take on the branding ideas, it seems such a shame to not have a quirky Cadburys feel to it!
