chocolate bear macarons: going on a bear hunt with ready brek.

"We're going on a bear hunt... We're going to catch a big one... What a beautiful day! We're not scared... "

Who remembers that lovely poem from Michael Rosen? I actually can't believe it's 28 years old this year (almost as old as me...) And what a perfect fit for the rebrand of our well-loved porridge treat, Ready Brek. Now with a cute bear on the front of their infamous red packaging, but still the same yummy flavours and nutrients, the illustration was the perfect inspiration behind my latest bear macaron recipe. These macarons are filled with a delicious milk chocolate filling and decorated with edible paint. Let's go...

Shopping list.
(Make 12 medium or 24 mini macarons)
♥ Two egg whites, at room temperature
♥ 75g caster sugar
♥ 90g icing sugar, sieved
♥ 75g almonds, sieved until fine with lumps discarded
♥ Brown food colouring gel, I used Sugarflair Dark Brown
♥ Milk chocolate spread
♥ Edible paint and food colouring pens

Firstly, make your macarons according to my step by step tutorial. I used a dash of Sugarflair dark brown until I was happy with a medium shade.

Create the shape by piping one large circle macaron and two smaller ones above!

When baked and cooled, draw your little bear face on half the macarons and allow to dry. Next, pipe some milk chocolate spread into the plain side and carefully put together to make a full macaron.

Have you ever tried making macarons? Or sampled unusual macarons? What is your favourite Ready Brek flavour? But more importantly, have you been on any adventures this Summer?

  3. How cute! I wouldn't even attempt such delicate decorating work because my bears would look like monsters out of a horror story. Chocolate macarons, mmmm.

  7. A fascinating discussion is worth comment. I think that you should write more on this subject matter, it may not be a taboo matter but usually people do not talk about such subjects. To the next! Best wishes!!
