chocolate bakewell tart.

one of my favourite desserts with a twist; a chocolate bakewell using nutella spread! since bakewell is mostly almonds and i love nutty flavours i started thinking how this could work. i imagined once the jam was out of the recipe how this would turn into a nutty frangipane tart with some of my fave flavours :) tempted? here's how i made it...

shopping list
for the pastry

♥ 200g plain flour
♥ 100g butter
♥ 3 tbsp cold water

♥ or - jus roll sweet or all  butter shortcrust pastry sheet

for the filling
♥ 125g caster sugar
♥ 125g unsalted butter
♥ 125g ground almonds
♥ 1/2 tub of nutella
♥ 50g flaked almonds
♥ one egg

preheat the oven to 200 degrees, gas mark 6.

begin by making the pastry, or in my case laying all butter jus roll out on a bottomless tart tin. lay down some foil, followed by baking beans or rice and blind bake for about 12-15 minutes.

make the frangipane by creaming together the caster sugar, butter, egg and almonds.

when the tart case has cooled, though slightly warm helps spread the nutella, smooth over around half of the nutella jar. try to take a blind eye to the amount of nutella you use. afterall you're only going to have six two slices aren't you? and totally not going to eat it straight from the jar in the middle of the night either.

lay over the rest of the filling and sprinkle with the flaked almonds.

bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until a nice golden brown, turning half way.

allow to cool and remove from the tin. slice up and enjoy warm with cream or cold. it'll keep for a few days and is fine to warm back up again if you fancy :)

do let me know if you try the recipe or have tried something similar - i'm a sucker for a good bakewell recipe! x
